We began our Lean journey in earnest in early 2007.  At the outset Operations led the adoption of TPS related philosophies, tools, and systems.  After a number of successes in Operations our administrative teams began to engage in similar activities.  We have experimented with a myriad of approaches to instilling TPS and recently tailored this endeavor by creating the Gem Performance System (GPS).  Our GPS is represented by our house which captures what is most important to Gem while simultaneously aligning with the principles that are considered critical to world class performance in any organization.

This tour will take you through both our Operations and Administrative departments.  During the tour folks will have a chance to see and hear from leaders and associates alike as they highlight their hoshin strategies, idea generation, and problem solving.  Attendees will also hear about our house and its components, Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen activity, sideways sharing, visual management, standard work, 6s, and our recent adoption of the A3 approach to solving problems and bringing about positive change.    We are happy to share our story and hope we can provide you with some valuable insights, ideas, and inspiration.  At the same time we will be listening intently for any feedback you may have to help us in our quest to achieve operational excellence!
