Visual Control Systems: A One Day Workshop

Overview: A hands-on, one-day workshop providing instruction in how to use Visual Control Devices and Systems to make every operation within your facility “speak to you” so you can manage at a glance. By using Visual Control Systems, you can develop a visual factory, where the information is built into the work. Employees will be able to share critical information as part of their work such as: what’s needed, how many, where do things belong, who needs help, who can help, machine status, etc. The workshop is a natural extension of 5S and includes classroom instruction on the Visual Control methodology and the four levels of Visual Control, followed by hands-on practice in the application of the methodology. The class provides an excellent foundation for companies just starting out with a VC program or those in need of a “jump start” to re-energize their efforts. It provides many examples of “best practices” that attendees can take away and immediately apply in their own settings.
After taking this class attendees should be able to:
- Describe each of the four VC levels and how each is used in a comprehensive program.
- Set up a basic VC program that can be sustained and improved over time.
- Use a variety of VC “best practices” to begin to build critical information into the work.
- Describe how VCS helps prepare their business for higher levels of employee involvement in continuous improvement efforts.
- Explain why people are the secret to successful VC programs
Who should attend? Every area in a company can benefit from VC activities and therefore this introductory course is appropriate for all levels and disciplines within the organization. It is especially relevant for employees seeking a basic understanding or a refresher course on VC principles. It is designed to give students hands-on practice applying VC methods.
