Toyota Forklifts calls these their three "Core Principles" - 5S (Workplace Organization), Kaizen (Continuous Improvement) and Genchi Genbutsu (Go & See at the Gemba). These are amazing, am I right? Post these to your
TPS or huddle board to remind folks why we're on this Lean journey together and keep the improvements going. GBMP CI Manager Bob Elliott explains - "During training today we were discussing 5S and other types of daily huddle boards to aide in daily Lean Manufacturing efforts. The group wanted to have one in each area but this particular department, the Lathe department, had no wall space to call its own. The team came up with the idea that - instead of a cork board or a white board on wheels that would eat up valuable floor space - they could just tape the back of the machine into sections and hang all of their 5S audit and related TPS documents there using magnets. The left picture shows a close up and the right shows how they are actually using the previously wasted space on an unused part of a machine."
Do you have a similar issue with not having wall space for boards? How have you solved the problem? This one is pretty good, don't you think? Feel free to "steal shamelessly". YOKOTEN! Grounding your Lean Learning: The Know How & The Know Why: A Free Podcast by Bruce Hamilton11/13/2017
GBMP's President, and resident "Toast Dude", Bruce Hamilton's free webinars are streamed live on the second Tuesday of each month. Podcasts are available to view anytime on GBMP's video content website Leanflix. Bruce Hamilton is considered by many to be one of the foremost thought leaders on Lean and The Toyota Production System in the United States today. Why not set aside 40 minutes today to watch one of our favorites (there are more than 50!) about how to make sure your Lean training program "grounds Lean learning…so students understand the philosophies...aka the “the Know Why”...right alongside “the Know How". Too often the countermeasures and tools are attempted without a conceptual understanding or holistic context." In this webinar, Bruce shares the know how and why, for the integration of the tools and culture required for a successful Lean Transformation. Bruce's blog, OldLeanDude, focuses on management's understanding (and misunderstanding) of the Toyota Production System. Subscribe on the site to be notified when new posts are added. |
