Grant Funding for Employee Training in the Northeast
Massachusetts
|
![]() The Workforce Training Fund is a state fund financed entirely by Massachusetts employers through a surcharge on the Unemployment Insurance tax. The purpose of the fund is to provide resources to Massachusetts businesses to train current and newly hired employees. If your company pays into the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment fund, it is eligible to participate in the programs. Training grants are awarded competitively to employers, employer organizations, labor organizations, training providers, or a consortium of such entities, to train current and newly hired workers. The maximum amount of a training grant is $250,000. There is a rolling acceptance procedure in place and applications are reviewed monthly. When received, applications will get a technical review to make sure all the required information and documentation is included, then a search will be conducted to confirm the company is up to date on all the financial requirements. Once the technical review is completed, a review of the actual application will be done (the proposed coursework and its intended impact). In most cases the applicant will be notified of the decision within 60 days of submission.
The General Grant Program is available to companies, organizations and providers of any size. Successful applicants demonstrate that training will result in job retention, job growth or increased wages and will make a difference in the company's productivity, competitiveness, and ability to do business in Massachusetts. General Grant monies awarded can reach $250,000 and must be used within a 24-month period. For more detailed information on how the Massachusetts grant program works, click here. |
